I remember when I photographed this, early 2000, in New York City, Washington Heights. This was a live, active fire. I heard about this fire over the police scanner, grabbed my film camera, loaded up with Ilford HP5 400, pushed to 800; those were the days! I developed my own b&w film back then, on my kitchen table and scanned the negatives with a film scanner. These firemen bravely rescued residents. - Sabrina Hartel Lonzo.
